Bir Raghab Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma was established by the Government of Assam on 7th March, 2020. With the central aim of improving access, quality, and fostering equity in the higher education scenario of Assam, the Government of Assam, in consonance with the centrally sponsored scheme of Model Degree Colleges, set about this enterprising journey of creating educational institutions catering to the higher education needs of underserved regions. Based on a nationwide survey of Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) or Gross Enrolment Index (GEI), Educationally Backward Districts (EBDs) were identified—districts where GER remained below the national average. Tinsukia is one among the 12 EBDs identified in Assam. Our college stands today as a successful manifestation of this spirited initiative of the Government of Assam.
In the more local context, our college has been instrumental in assuaging the severely disproportionate student-to-higher-education-institution ratio prevailing in the Doomdooma region. It is noteworthy that the name of the college, “Bir Raghab Moran Government Model College”, holds immense cultural and historical significance for the inhabitants of this region and Assam at large. In essence, the college name serves as a tribute to and immortalizes Bir Raghab Moran, a historic pride and son of the soil from the Moran community—an eminent cultural figure and historical luminary of Assamese socio-cultural life.
